When Chandragupta Maurya defeated Dhanananda under the guidance of Acharya Chanakya and became the emperor of India, he was married to a woman named Durdhara.

Even after getting the throne of India, Acharya Chanakya continued to poison Chandragupta Maurya in his food but he had not told this to anyone yet. With the passage of time, he gradually increased the amount of poison in Chandragupta Maurya’s food but there came a time when Chandragupta Maurya’s wife Durdhara died due to this. When Queen Durdhara was 9 months pregnant and only seven days were left for her delivery, Chandragupta unknowingly shared his food with her. However, Chandragupta Maurya was unaware that there was poison in his food. The result of this was that nothing happened to Chandragupta because he had been drinking it since childhood, but Queen Durdhara reached a dying state.

When Queen Durdhara was taking her last breath, there was an outcry everywhere. In his womb was the next emperor of the Maurya dynasty who has to lead India. At the same time, this information was sent to Acharya Chanakya at a rapid speed and he soon reached the chamber of Chandragupta Maurya. Till that time, no one knew what happened to Queen Durdhara all of a sudden but Acharya had understood everything.

He knew very well that the effect of the poison is very strong and in no way can Queen Durdhara be saved. At the same time, being in the last stage of pregnancy, her immunity had also weakened but the next Maharaja of Bharatvarsha, who was in her womb, could have been saved.

At that time, he did not waste time explaining the matter of mixing poison in food to anyone. Acharya Chanakya, according to his visionary thinking, decided to do the delivery of the queen Durdhara by operation with the aim of saving the future emperor. This is what we know today as C-section delivery which was discovered by our great sages and Vaidyas (Doctors) at the same time.

Then Acharya Chanakya with the help of Vaidyas successfully operated Queen Durdhara’s stomach and took out her son from the womb. Although Queen Durdhara had died from the effects of the poison, the next emperor of India was alive and well.

Thus seven days later the future emperor was successfully born who was completely healthy. Due to keeping the fetus in the womb of the goat, there were spots of goat’s blood everywhere on his body, due to which Acharya Chanakya named him Bindusara.

According to the belief of Jainism, when Queen Durdhara drank the poison, a drop of it reached the head of the fetus. Even before the poison can reach the rest of the body, it was successfully taken out by Acharya Chanakya. But due to the drop of poison reaching the head, a permanent mark was left there, due to which Acharya Chanakya named him Bindusara.

After Chandragupta Maurya, the next Maharaja of Bharatvarsha was Bindusara, who extended the boundaries of his kingdom further. Emperor Ashoka, the great emperor of India and the main propagator of Buddhism, was the son of this Bindusara. However, like his father Chandragupta Maurya and son Ashoka, Maharaj Bindusara does not find much mention in history books.
